The 2020 Highlander Hybrid will be here any day now, so find out why you should be excited about this amazing hybrid SUV!

Trading Strength for Savings

A new model year means a new Highlander Hybrid is near! The 2020 Highlander Hybrid is set to shake things up with some significant changes. A little less powerful than before, the upcoming model year will be much, MUCH more fuel efficient. Chances are it will be more affordable as well. Get the details below!

Fantastic Fuel Efficiency

The most apparent difference between the 2020 Highlander Hybrid and the current offering is that the new model year’s make will see substantial savings at the gas pump. With a current fuel economy of about 29 mpg combined, the 2019 edition is certainly no slouch. Still, the Highlander Hybrid will blow that number away. Toyota says that the upcoming hybrid will reach a whopping 34 mpg combined rate. With five more miles per gallon in the tank, you’ll be saving quite a lot at the bank.

New Goods Under the Hood

Getting that massively-improved fuel efficiency did come at a cost, however. The 2019 edition’s 3.5-liter V6 is being retired. The new Highlander Hybrid will make the swap for a new 2.5-liter I-4 instead.

With the old engine hitting 306 total-hybrid-system horsepower, the new rating of just 240 seems like quite a drop. However, Toyota isn’t known for undercutting performance too much. The incredible increase in miles per gallon should more than make up for any perceived weakness in the new engine.

An Affordable Answer

Another potential positive of the now-slimmer engine is that the price tag of the 2020 Highlander Hybrid should lose some weight as well. Further cost-cutting could be found due to the newly-introduced front-wheel drive option. With the 2019 edition only coming in all-wheel-drive, a front-wheel-version should shave a few bucks off the top.

Sporty Sports Mode

Toyota has adjusted the various driving modes of the 2020 Highlander Hybrid to help ease the gap between the engines of old and new. The Sport mode should provide plenty of get-up-and-go when drivers need a little extra oomph. Normal and Eco modes will also be available as well. It is worth noting that the Highlander Hybrid is a non-plug-in hybrid, so keep in mind that the electric-only drive time won’t last very long.

Comfortable Cargo Capacity

All too often, big and bulky battery packs push cargo capacity down into the gutter. However, the 2020 Highlander Hybrid avoids this pitfall by placing the battery pack under the rear seats. According to Toyota, this improved location will allow the new hybrid to carry just as much cargo as the gasoline-fed variety.

Gadgets and Gizmos

What’s life without a little fun? The 2020 Highlander Hybrid will pack in plenty of powerful techno-toys for you and your passengers to enjoy. Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will come standard, regardless of trim tier. Also included standard is a state-of-the-art eight-inch touchscreen to control your music and maps. For those looking for an even bigger and better screen, a 12.3-inch version can be found on the top-tier Platinum trim.
