New year, new sales. With one-fourth of the top twenty best-selling vehicles of 2019, Toyota is crushing the competition so far this year.

Toyota Tramples the Competition

Sales figures for the first half of 2019 are in, and Toyota took home the crown. Motor1 recently compiled the top 20 best-selling vehicles of this first half of the year, and Toyota took five of the 20 top sales slots. With the RAV4, Camry, Corolla, Tacoma and Highlander steamrolling the competition, customers clearly feel that there is no better time to buy a new Toyota than today.

RAV4 Ranks 4th

Toyota’s first placement on the Top 20 list came in at number four with the 2019 RAV4. The crossover SUV has taken the year by storm. The RAV4 has already sold over 200,000 units in this first half of the year alone.

It isn’t a surprise America’s best-selling 2019 SUV is doing so well. This year the RAV4 received a major visual overhaul that has made it much more eye-catching. Indeed, 200,610 sets of eyes have already been caught by the crossover so far.

Attractive looks aren’t just on the outside. Another big attraction of the 2019 RAV4 is the interior, which recently won an award from WardsAuto

The automotive website praised the plethora of premium features, such as a leather-trimmed steering wheel, a soft-touch two-tier instrumental panel and five USB ports. WardsAuto also appreciated that Toyota broke the mold when it came to classic-but-worn-out designs, saying the RAV4 had “enough funky angles and shapes … to excite a geometry teacher.”

As Motor1 noted, customization is also a big appeal for the 2019 RAV4. The crossover SUV offers a huge variety of different packages and options. Whether you’re looking to cruise around town or tackle off-road obstacles, there’s a RAV4 for everyone this year.

Next on the list was a sixth-place finish for Toyota, thanks to the 2019 Camry. The well-known sedan continues to defy industry expectations that sedans are a dying breed. Toyota’s own plans saw production of the Camry slowed last year as SUV sales skyrocketed. Yet the Camry just won’t stay down. The sedan exceeded 176,000 units sold so far this year, surpassing sales of all other Toyota vehicles, minus the RAV4.

While production may have been scaled back, Toyota did upgrade the upcoming 2020 Camry with a new TRD package. The Toyota Racing Development team was able to create a slicker, spicier version of the sedate sedan. Features such as wider-yet-lighter wheels, a more powerful engine and better aerodynamics will add up to an impressive new Camry when it launches in the coming months.

Corolla Captures 10th

Toyota’s third placement on the list went to the Corolla for the number ten spot. With the 2020 model already on sale, the compact car has found strong sales so far this year. With just below 153,000 units sold, the Corolla continues to be a fan favorite.

The 2020 edition of the Toyota Corolla brought with it a refreshed outer appearance that has let it keep up with the competition. More standard safety features were added as well, bringing systems such as pre-collision warning with automatic front braking and lane-keeping assist to the masses.

Tacoma Tackles 14th

The fourth appearance for Toyota came courtesy of the 2019 Tacoma with a 14th slot placement. When it comes to trucks, there are few as widely-known as the Tacoma. While this year’s model did not receive much in the way of changes, it doesn’t appear buyers were too worried. The time-tested truck sold nearly 122,000 units so far, showing that the old girl still has it in her.

Highlander Haggles for 16th

The honor of finishing Toyota’s strong sales figures went to the 2019 Highlander, which took the 16th slot. The crossover SUV continues to wow customers, despite ever-increasing competition from rival automakers. The Highlander brought in just over 111,000 sales so far for 2019, with no signs of slowing down. The upcoming 2020 model shows signs of being a total knockout, thanks to a smoother shape and better tech.
