The 2019 Toyota Corolla: Should I choose the Sedan or the Hatchback?

The year 2019 certainly dawned on us with many surprises, and one of them is the 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback and sedan. There’s no better option for an affordable and revolutionary small car than this models. Even if it may still be too early to evaluate, there is no doubt that this may be the most brilliant version of the Toyota Corolla. In addition, the 2019 Corolla has a magnificent look that’s quite appealing to the eye.

This year, the vehicle has been upgraded to have various standard features such as the advanced safety tech. Also, keep in mind that these standard features are applicable to all versions, including the cheapest one. This alone makes the 2019 Toyota Corolla a must have, especially to commercial service drivers. It also has a vast amount of space for both driver and passengers.

The main reason why the sedan is not yet the best version of 2019 is because there’s also a new Corolla Hatchback. If you’re looking for better quality, efficiency, and dynamics then say no more. The Corolla Hatchback has utterly done it by beating the sedan subjectively as well as objectively. However, kindly note that the sedan may be the right pick for a family car because it has a bigger interior space.

Basically, the hatchback is equipped with more equipment, making it more powerful and fun on the road. For example, it has 2 litre hybrid powertrain and the new Toyota Touch 2 navigation system. This model has also proven to compete strongly against other competitors that have an upper hand in comparison to the 2019 Corolla sedan.

All in all, the next generation lot of the Corolla sedan is designed to take up most of the features available in the Hatchback. For example, it still gets to retain the originality of interior space as well as a big trunk.

News for 2019

Ideally, the 2019 Corolla Sedan was produced and announced with no serious major changes. The Corolla Hatchback, on the other hand, was released as a completely new model that had additional features that you haven’t seen in the Sedan before. For example, the car has a lower stance and better proportions, making it look more sporty than the sedan.

What You Would Like

The 2019 Corolla has been designed to feel a lot more comfortable on the road. There’s an inclusion of advanced safety tech that prevents accidents from happening, exceptional fuel economy by Eco trim, spacious backseat space that is accommodative for both children and adults, and also has a superior reliability reputation.

What needs to be Improved?

The Corolla 2019 also has just a few adjustments that will be needed in future. The rear drum brakes have been ranked as inferior, except for the SE and XSE versions. It also doesn’t come with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and the acceleration is not considered fast enough for the sports car lovers.

Fuel Economy

Due to standard, all the Toyota Corolla models except for the Eco trim come with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine. With a 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque, the car has still been regarded as among the slowest vehicles among other produced segments. There’s also a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that is always standard, and an option of a 6-speed manual transmission that is only available for the SE.

While driving in the city, the Corolla engine records 28 miles per gallon, 36 miles per gallon on the highway and 32 miles per gallon in combined driving. Consequently, the manual transmission brings down those numbers to 27 mpg, 35 mpg and 30 mpg in the city, highway and combined driving respectively. This is considered quite economical, but other versions such as the Hatchback can do a better job.

Subsequently, the Corolla LE Eco also has a 1.8 4-cylinder engine that’s been improved to produce a 140 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque. It’s definitely a tad more powerful, but the most important point to note is that it has a superior fuel economy that records 30mpg in the city, 40mpg on the highway and 34pmg in combined driving. If you happen to go for the 16-in wheels version, then this will reduce the mpg by only one.

Safety Features

The 2019 Toyota Corolla is inbuilt with anti-lock brakes, forward-collision warning that can detect pedestrians and apply automatic braking, eight airbags, stability control, lane-keep assist and lane-departure warning that are backed up by automatic high beams. The best part about the Corolla safety features is that they managed to get the car a top overall 5-star rating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash test.

Which One should you Go For?

The 2019 Corolla is quite a gem on the road for all drivers that want to have a bit of class and still look into the fuel economy aspect. In an ideal world, you would have to agree with the fact that car performance with a sense of high-quality fuel economy is the step to take in 2019, thus going for the hatchback.
